Dear Big Bright Lights in the Night Sky... [Dec. 18th, 2007|04:42 pm]
Billy Corgan
I emerge from my seemingly eternal self-imposed silence to bring good news! The collective We is happy to announce that We have just finished a new acoustic e.p. entitled 'American Gothic' that features 4 new songs:
  • The Rose March
  • Again, Again, Again (the crux)
  • POX
  • Sunkissed

Even better is the news that these songs will be available on i-tunes starting January 2nd...the collective We looks forward to you hearing these new songs afresh and us playing them to you anew on the upcoming European and Australian tours...

Since the holidays are upon us, the collective I would like to take this opportunity to give gratitude where it is due, and that is to those that are not hypnotized, or so numbed by darkness that they cannot hear the chime in my words...I wish you a warm holiday and a brilliant New Year to come, and may you get all you deserve! (again) From my heart to yours, sincerely, I hope you feel the love that we have for all of you, even for those of you who are lost and seeking, bruised and still keeping...i hope these words find you as well...

The new day has finally come as we turn the corner on the end of one energy that no longer serves us and begin to embrace the new dawn that will...and no, I am not speaking about the band or the music business...what is past is passed, and we all wear the black arm bands in honor of, but life happily, as it should, marches on...hopefully to a good beat...

Thanks to New Orleans for showing Us the meaning of hope...and thanks to the old guard for showing the same dull move, you know the one that never works? Art band that said old guard wishes they were in so bad that they wish importance upon it? Check! No matter what you crutches all dream up, Led Zep is still a 100 times better! Go Zep! Go Team! Rock on! Long Live the Mighty SP!

Thank YOU for showing up! And yes, I mean YOU :)
lovingness, happiness, BC

Re: Want the CD?

There will be a CD release outside the United States.

Check here:

I'm planning to import it instead of doing the iTunes thing, since I prefer the lossless quality of CDs. :)

A warm holiday to you too! I wasn't able to make it to your show in the Twin Cities, but I'm enjoying the new CD and looking forward to the EP. I too would like to get the EP on disc as opposed to iTunes--any chance of that happening soon?

As a long-time fan & lurker but first-time commenter: Thank you thank you thank you for the music. You have inspired so many of us over the years, even me, who never thought I'd pick up a guitar again. I did, and I am gearing up to battle my carlysimonitis and play coffeehouses [and wherever else they'll let me] in the coming year.

[/fangrrl gushing]

Take care and be safe on the road,

Re: !?

A New Day

Another hole seething in the sand
Comes the fettered hands of our Brother's gift
The awful rose is forgotten again
And the sleeping dogs strike the temporary land.

Oh yea, yea, yea, yea, yea! Oooooooo!

I see a ghost reaching for my hand
I look again, evaluate the scene
Another rock
I rest my head
The word is ROCK

Drink till I'm drained free!
Pelican give me your wings!
Strike before the people even see!
I can.
Here cums 9Radio3.

Bright lights become the melting course
Of our Father walking to the tune
Of the simple stroll that went clicking through the streets
Another tune...
Watch my heart bleed!

Drink till I'm drained free!
Pelican give me your wings!
Strike before the people even see!
I can.
Here cums 9Radio3.

In yr ear
I'll stay
Tripping through
The corridors
Of yr brain.
I'll leave a seed.
It grows.
The rose blooms.
Said get out...
Get out...
Get out of the Tomb!

A New Da-a-a!

Ad infinitum...

It was great to hear someone from the outside recognize that New Orleans is in fact back and thriving for the most part. All that negative, misleading press out there can be very discouraging. Hearing that was better than any of the music played that night.

Liber Pulveris

With this virtuoso solo piece, I have endeavored to capture a rhythmic element from my language as an improviser—an energetically vibrating rhythmic surface that grooves without falling into a clear meter or pulse. The notation features a high degree of rhythmic precision characteristic of some very rationally-conceived modernist compositions, but it is deployed to facilitate the gradual emergence of a feelingful groove from this percolating rhythmic surface. Non-octave scales are derived from jazz chords and idiomatic melodic motifs, and transformed through algorithmic procedures. Though quite short, this high-density and high-intensity composition encapsulates many of my compositional interests to date.

The Liber pulveris is one of four Latin translations from the twelfth century of Kitab al jami' wa'l tafriq bi hisab al hind (The Book of Addition and Subtraction According to the Hindu Calculation) by ninth–century Persian mathematician Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. In this text, known only through these Latin translations, Al-Khwarizmi instructs on the use of the nine-digit system of numerals, inherited from India, for mathematical computation. The title of Liber pulveris refers to the method of inscribing calculations into sand or dust spread on a board, which was widely practiced in India and in the Arab empire before the use of paper become ubiquitous. These 'ghubar' (dust) numerals, made their way to the West through these Latin translations, where they were referred to as algorismi, and are now called Arab numerals.

Liber Pulveris was commissioned by Colin McAllister.

t saddens me that I cannot not buy these iTunes tracks as i cannot support Apple and their treatment of musicians and their customers.

Cheers for the EP, I hope i can find an import locally.

It would be nice if the next time you guys do something like this you'd do it on something that isnt tied to a partitcular device or company. Ie, release it on iTunes, but allso eMusic, amazon, puretracks, etc. Apple does not deserve a SP exclusive ep.

my x-mas wish

Ok so where do I start - First off a 1’000’000 x THANK YOU for making 2007 awesome new SP sound and TOUR!I had the the great chance to get a hold of ‘last minute’ tickets ;-) (when does that ever happen ?! Seriously!!!) for your 3 hour show in my hometown of Luxembourg. After being mad (the venue’s site crashed while I was trying to buy my tickets as soon as they went on sale) and outraged (the show was sold out when the site was back up AAARGH) my sentiments went to infinite sadness and when the day of your appearance was finally there I swear I was in the foulest mood ever – when Phoenix (my 5 year old son) asked ‘mommy why are you so sad’ I could not even reply I just burst out in tears. I must have been unbearable at work – wouldn’t speak, was moping all morning. But then a text message on my phone from my MOM – ‘SP tickets going on sale in a couple of min.’ Puzzled I went online and YES!Tickets for SP available?! How could this be?! my heart started razing and without further hesitation I booked my tickets – my hands were shaking and even when I had my printout in my hands I was still in disbelieve – I looked online again and it said again SOLD OUT!! Hmmm what had just happened?! So many questions–why would my MOM know about tickets going on sale??? Then I pieced the puzzle together-one of my best friends is the Venue’s Owners girlfriend-I called her and she told me that she had sent the message to my mom’s cell instead of mine by accident-and the reason for the LAST MINUTE TICKETS was that the band YOU!!! Had returned their extra tickets the same morning Coincidence?!Miracle?! Whatever the circumstances were–I was from then on just floating. My hubby being deployed I had to find a sitter for Phoenix and a friend immediately agreed to keep him overnight so I had nothing to worry about–just go out and enjoy the mighty SP performance at DEN ATELIER–awesome venue since it is so small–you really get to feel the music.I have seen SP many times before the break-up including Paris –AVA ADORE (I just cried after that show–I was so moved and all the strings etc on stage were just AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL) and Berlin on the last tour. But this 2007 show was a special TREAT!!! 3 hours of pure bliss!!! I did not want it to end EVER!!!! The show was awesome–I was in Heaven!!! I loved everything,it was PERFECT!!! I swear I had PERMAGRIN forever!!!! My CD changer in the car only featured SP for months on end after the show–and by default Phoenix now loves the mighty SP too. And you have become his heroes since Transformers came out-in the theater he yelled–MOMMY that’s SP!!!! How Cool! When you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up he will say ‘A rockstar veterinarian basketball player astronaut’
I kept a close watch on your website announcements and found that you added another show fairly close, and immediately bought tickets. Unfortunately I had to have surgery the week prior yet I was still determined to go the show numbed by painkillers. The day of the show I was in such pain I had to go to the emergency room at Landstuhl medical center (Army Hospital in Germany) begging for narcotics. I was crying from the pain and because I couldn’t go to the show that I had been looking forward to for all this time – again – infinite sadness struck me but the meds numbed both pains. Now I see dates being added for 2008 and I am being hopeful!! There is a free date on Feb20th!! And I am begging you!! Please come to Luxembourg after Brussels and on your way to Germany PLEASE! I know a lot of people post these ‘please come to XXX’ messages all the time. but I believe in the power of the mighty SP and am ever so hopeful for a Christmas miracle! If you find it in your hearts and manage to schedule this date in Luxembourg–don’t forget to add me and Phoenix to the guest list (Hubby is deployed again) just in case the venue’s site crashes again when I go to buy my tickets, ok?! ;-)And FINALLY–I LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU for making the new EP an acoustic one–I have been dying to get my hands on some kind of unplugged SP. Another wish fulfilled – now I am counting down the days to January 2nd To all readers I apologize for posting such an extensive message in the hopes the mighty SP will read it and grant my ONE AND ONLY x-mas wish.

American Gothic Lyrics...

Hey Billy, I was wondering if you could post the lyrics to the 4 songs on American Gothic? (I just had to download them earlier today from the Zeitgeist album on iTunes!) They sound amazing, but I definitely am one of those listeners who understands the beauty of the lyrics once she can read them...

"and that is to those that are not hypnotized, or so numbed by darkness that they cannot hear the chime in my words..."

You know this made me think of a day last summer, not too soon after Zeitgeist was released, that I was driving off to work, listening to the Cd. Having just left my "therapist's" office, where I was not feeling relief after the session but instead a foreboding, inescapable sense of depression and hopelessness looming, I was contemplating the use of chemicals to alter my perceptions as they all too often take a dip south for no discernible reason. I was sitting in a parking, waiting for the lunch I'd just ordered to be ready, getting more anxious by the minute. All of a sudden, something made me pay attention to the song that was playing in the background. It was "Bring the light." The music, the words, the feeling of it just wrapped me up and held me tight and helped me from falling back down the tunnel.

Thank you.

So I want to know if what Billy is refering to throughout his album and on tour ("fascist ashes, we all fall down") is the 9/11 myth. Even in this entry he writes, "and that is to those that are not hypnotized," leading me to think he is referring to something huge but which we cannot see without a necessary level of skepticism, thoughtfulness, and openness. Also, the album came out around the same time and is titled the same as "Zeitgeist" the movie that directly explains the holes in the official story of 9/11 and the physical impossibilities of the trade towers collapsing by way of airplanes.

I mean just read some of the lyrics on the album, for real:

"United States"

Tired eyes
Closed for days
There's no regret
'Cause there's no place
I don't know
What I believe
But if I feel safe
What do I need

A home
A home
A home

Revolution blues
What will they do
Revolution blues
What will they do to me
What will they do to me
What will they do to me
What will they do to me

Dulcet tongues
Whisper fast
The future yearns
Right now's the past
Rouse me soon
The end draws nigh
Who's side are you on
Your blood you cannot buy

Revolution blues
What will they do
Revolution blues
What will they do to you

Well I
I feel alright
So tonight
I got to ask you why
Why deny it
It's no surprise
I've got to survive

Freedom shines the light ahead
I'll lead the last charge to bed
I said my last rights
I don't have to run scared no more

I wanna fight
I wanna fight a revolution
I wanna fight
I wanna fight a revolution
At the light
At the light
Do you wanna watch me die

Let me be something good
Let me prove something real like I should
Let me embrace every single living thing
Let me be every single moment I ever misunderstood
